While you may not have previously thought about this, it’s perfectly possible to have your shower tray in limestone. And you could benefit from this beautiful natural stone’s elegance and functionality in your shower or bathroom. However, there are some specific considerations to take into account. These include sealing your stone well to protect it from water absorption. (This is clearly particularly important in such a high-moisture part of your home. What’s more, you’ll need to reseal at least every couple of years.)
Additionally, think in terms of a non-slip finish such as honed, since polished finishes are obviously more slippery. Equally, it’s important that you rinse out the tray thoroughly after each shower to remove soap scum.
Cleaning your shower tray
All the usual things apply that do to other types of natural stone. Clean the tray regularly with pH-neutral cleaners specifically designed for natural stone. And steer clear of harsh chemicals such as bleach or ammonia, since these can be harmful. At the same time, don’t use abrasive materials including stiff brushes, abrasive cloths or scouring pads on your shower tray. Any of these can damage your limestone surface.
For everyday cleaning, just use a soft cloth or sponge with warm, soapy water before drying with a clean, soft towel to stop water marks from building up.
Tougher stains and limescale
For more stubborn staining, mix a little water with baking soda to form a paste. Apply to the blemished area and it leave it for around five hours before rinsing with clear water and drying with a soft cloth.

If this common issue has developed on your shower tray, mix white vinegar and water in equal parts. Spray on the tray and allow to sit for up to an hour so that the limescale deposits break down.
You can also scrub the affected area gently with a soft-bristled brush before rinsing, and this should shift most stubborn stains.
Finally, always rinse the tray thoroughly with clear water to shift all the cleaning solution. And don’t forget to dry off thoroughly with a soft cloth or towel to stop watermarks from forming.
