There could be any number of reasons why you don’t feel able to fit full-length marble kitchen countertops. These could range from not having enough space to the expense. (No one would ever claim marble was a particularly cheap material.)
However, marble is now used in homes in some pretty unexpected ways, for example as kitchen backsplashes. And it’s not hard to see why. A marble backsplash elevates any kitchen, whether your property is sleekly modern or whether it has a more traditional appearance.
The stone itself also offers choice. You can go for darker or lighter veining, depending on the look you want to achieve in your room. You can be as bold or as subdued as you like!
If you have darker cabinets, for example, you may well want the contrast of lighter marble – and vice versa.
The backsplash is a space where you can add colourful or textured elements you may have resisted in other areas of your kitchen.
A touch of luxury
A marble backsplash can add a touch of luxury and class to a kitchen without the potential risks of having a whole slab in this natural stone in your room. Especially if you have a very young or busy household, remember that marble is soft and porous in nature. So it can be prone to marking, chipping and scratching if you’re not careful.
But a backsplash just needs sealing – and regular, careful cleaning with the right products to stay looking its gorgeous best.
The choice is yours
Your backsplash can consist of a single slab or marble tiles. Equally, choose from honeycomb or mosaic patterns. The think about marble is it still looks stunning when it’s cut in smaller pieces.
And finally…
One alternative to a marble backsplash is to have one in quartz. Quartz countertops resembles marble pretty closely in terms of its appearance, but it’s cost-effective, long-lasting and good at resisting stains.
