A local trading standards team is urging people to be wary of cold callers offering patio cleaning services.
Cumbria Trading Standards said it often receives complaints about doorstep callers operating in its area. But it’s advice worth heeding, wherever you live.
That means being cautious when doorstep callers approach you offering to complete work on your property.
Cumbria Trading Standards says: “We always say you should say no to cold callers. Equally, protect vulnerable friends, neighbours or relatives by passing on the advice.”
Problems with cold callers
Cold callers often use persuasive tactics or aggression to get an agreement to work for someone. They then charge more than their original quote, but their work may be of poor quality.
Equally, they often fail to offer the chance to cancel the work in some circumstances. But this is a legal requirement.
If you get a cold call, report the incident to local police, or to Trading Standards, who can help.
