On the hunt for kitchen colour inspiration? While you may be tempted by a classic all-white look, be aware that some designers are starting to say that this is no longer the shade of the moment to go for – even though its popularity has endured for decades.
Don’t ditch it completely
However, that doesn’t mean ditching the shade entirely. Natural stones, for example, come in a rich range of earthy colours, providing an outstanding counterpoint to the use of white elsewhere. Indeed, your choice of worktop is especially important since its visual impact is so great, so take your pick with care.
Equally, contrast white with black or steel appliances. Or how about using wooden flooring? Or terra cotta tiling to enhance the look of your otherwise white kitchen?
Clearly, it’s up to you how you scale colours you alternate with white – you could still have this colour as the dominant shade.
More ideas that aren’t all-white
Instead of going for brilliant, pure white, consider cream or ‘off-white’ in your kitchen. These shades are certainly easy on the eye, and a good choice for general daily family life.
Alternatively, if you want to add a little more drama, reds, yellows, greens and navy blue hues could be the way to go if you want to steer clear of an all-white room. Don’t be afraid to add some pops of perhaps surprising colours.
For cupboards, in particular, think about a mellow palette of warm grey, sage greens and the like.
It’s true that there will always be a place for all-white kitchens in the design palette, so not all experts recommend avoiding this hue, which will never go completely out of style. And, of course, your choice of colour for your home is entirely down to you. But it’s certainly not the only option out there.
