If you’re looking to update your kitchen in the New Year and are in the mood to be style-conscious, experts have revealed their predictions for the top interior design trends of 2020.
Out with the old…
To kick off with some of the trends on their way out, these include pastel shades, oversized wall clocks, and, interestingly, a potential shift away from granite kitchen worktops. These units have, of course, been hugely popular for the last decade or so, not least because they are so sturdy and easy to clean, and they remain a solid choice, but perhaps some tastes are starting to evolve.
Industry insiders predict 2020 will be all about marble as the natural stone of choice for kitchen worktops, thanks to its lighter, brighter look. Strongly veined stone is especially popular.
At the same time, the composite material terrazzo is making a move from floors to worktops, giving them a fresh, modern look. (It also works well in combination with a variety of different woods.)
…And in with the new!
Here are some of the trends those in the know think will be big news in 2020:
-
Slab backsplashes
– These are so easy to keep spotless, yet add a dramatic look to your kitchen
-
Colourful tiles –
Give your kitchen a splash of colour without a complete renovation. The above-mentioned backsplash could be the ideal place to start, and it seems more of us are taking risks with colour, especially in unexpected areas such as hoods and appliances
-
Double islands –
This can be a great way to divide your space between meal prep and serving or gathering areas
-
Steel oven hoods
– These are now tending to steer away from basic models to become real focal points
-
Dark countertops
– Natural materials and earthy tones seem to be taking over – with kitchens being no exception. Make no mistake, countertops are going dark, with natural wooden and walnut tones emerging as the winners.
