Here at Royal Stone Care, we’re often asked if people can (and indeed should) clean their driveways during the colder months.
The short answer is yes, you can, even as winter is doing its worst and temperatures start to plummet. (Which has already started to happen in the UK in recent weeks.) As long as you do so sensibly.
Here are some tips to help:
-
Store your pressure washer
in a warm, dry place throughout the winter
-
Use the winter sunlight
try and use your machine when there’s some direct light to heat the surfaces, even a little, making them quicker and easier to clean. For this reason, you’re probably better off waiting until afternoon to do the task.
-
Wrap up
it may sound obvious, but wrap up to stay warm and protect yourself from water sprayed at high pressure. Think rubber boots or other sensible footwear, a hat, gloves and extra layers.
-
De-ice
have salt or sand down so that your water doesn’t create an unwanted ice rink. Other possible ideas are calcium chloride or magnesium chloride, but be prepared in advance.
-
Up the temperature
to reduce the chances of icing up
-
Go with the flow
maintain a steady flow of water for as long as you’re working
