The end of the year can be a time for reflection, and that goes for home décor as much as anything else. And if you’re considering revamping your kitchen, maybe even in time for Christmas, worktops are likely to feature as key elements of this space.
Here are some thoughts on the trends for these items as we move into 2025.
Say hello to dramatic veining
Plain, block-colour worktops are being replaced by bold designs with dramatic vein patterning, including in warm shades. This kind of look goes well for a kitchen island, or with waterfall worktops which allow you to see the stone from every angle.
Terrazzo is trending
Next year, we’re expecting to see a lot more terrazzo in both traditional and modern-looking spaces. After all, it’s a hardwearing material, and stains don’t show up on it very readily, so it’s a low-upkeep solution for busy households. It also looks pretty smart.
Marble in warmer tones
Generally, trends have been moving from cool shades towards a warmer colour scheme. So think these tones for your natural stone countertops. The shift includes a favouring of tumbled marble and travertine.
Countertops blending with backsplashes
It’s becoming a sought-after idea to continue a countertop with a large backsplash, to add drama to your kitchen. If you want to, you can also match the sink and, say, a neighbouring shelf. (Another popular idea right now is to match cupboards and countertops, too.)
The devil is in the detailing
An edge profile for your kitchen worktop is bang on-trend at the moment. And it’s a finishing touch that it’s worth putting a bit of effort into. This is
particularly the case with thicker worktops.
Go two-tone
Choose units in clearly contrasting colours for a confident look. In fact, the stronger the contrast the better. Black and white, for example, can look very striking in this context.
Curve appeal
Curved worktops are having something of a moment. They can soften a place, and even make a room feel calmer.
